- An is used before a word beginning with a vowel. Vowels are a, e, i, o and u. To compare: Sometimes, a lion gets angry.(without vowel - lion begins with "l")

- Sometimes it can also be used in front of the letter "h".
- When talking about letters individually, remember that when their sounds begin with vowels, you must you "an". "You use an "l" in "lettuce"" ("ell" - begins with "e").

Why are "a" and "an" so important?[]
"A" and "an" are nearly always being used. This makes them very useful, and without them speaking would be very difficult. Try it! Why not attempt a whole day without saying "a" or "an". It's harder than you might think!
